MA’LOA

MA’LOA is a Hawaiian Poke Bowl restaurant that opened its first location in Berlin in 2017. Right from the start we developed the corporate identity in a way that it also works as a franchise brand. We accompanied Maloa on this path and now look after the 30 franchise locations all over Germany.

In close cooperation with the interior designer NOVONO, we developed
a corporate design that takes up the Hawaiian attitude to life without falling into clichés.

In addition to the logo, typography and general design elements, the corporate identity also includes the design of the walls, which consist of large, three-dimensional collages that strongly characterise each store.

As a supporting agency, we apply the brand into all media from print to space to online.

Collages are an important element of Maloa’s overall design language. The surreal composition of plants, 1950s images of surfers, film clips, and breaking waves looks like fragments of memories from a past holiday or perhaps just a dream of Hawaii.

As the collages have become one of the main elements in the overall communication of the brand, they can be found in different adaptations, always individually adapted to each restaurant.

There are two important things in Hawaii. The hula dance and, of course, poke bowls. Both are united by a circular move: the dancers' hips swaying and the stirring of a bowl full of delicious ingredients. This movement is reflected in our logo design. The typeface plays with the swoops and circles, but remains modern without clichés.
